May the discussion forum be put out to pasture. The lack of interest on this Board coincides with the decline and decay of softball in this area. We had better enjoy the Emily Weiman, Lauren Gibson the Courtney Salvarola careers because that's it from around here. The level of play and commitment Is gone and so is this Board. Not so sure about all of that. I sense a resurgence in the making.

Dear Quick Sand, please tell us how you have arrived at your conclusion. Up here on Cloud Nine I am not seeing the teams or the individual players (and even Heaven forbid, the energetic parents). Talk to me oh Fleet of Foot. Defender of Nothing

After consulting my crystal ball I see that players in the area are awakening to the fact that there is more to softball than life on the "C" an "B" circuit at Bachman.

Is USSSA converting to ASA or PGF? USSSA has led Maryland softball to the land of mediocrity, and the innocent followed.

(Not sure this belongs in "college ball" but responding to the post:) I can't see USSSA "converting" given that BD is now one of three "National Vice Presidents" of USSSA fastpitch - in other words, he's one of the three who runs it nationwide. I watched part of the rebroadcast of the PGF national championships, and heard the head of that organization talk about expansion plans. PGF wants to get in more on the ground floor of softball, and start sponsoring rec programs, local tournaments, etc. The goal is to teach the players the right way from the very start, and not just the ones from SoCal. It will be interesting to see if they can pull it off. That will take a lot of volunteers and a lot of effort - e.g., just getting PGF-certified umpires will be a challenge. I'd like to see them succeed, but.. getting back to GW's original troll post: I'm nowhere near as negative. There not be another Lauren Gibson for a few years, but how many Lauren Gibsons are there, anywhere in the country? There are certainly players from the local area who will be playing in college - the infamous Mr. Green's daughter, whether you want to claim her or not; Jess Cummings from Northern; and a few others at the top level.

Word in the clouds has it that Coach Watten is heading up a Black Ice clinic this Friday in Cockeysville. The GW may sneak away from my Heavenly duties to catch a glimpse of her coaching close up rather than at 30,000 feet. Defender of Nothing

Premier is definitely looking to expand. The regional director, Jim Barselona, has been working with the head of PGF to expand and adapt the program to the east coast. One of the problems we have here in Maryland is that fields are limited and often booked by other organizations well in advance. What we would like to do is get an established tournament in the area to take on the PGF brand therefore getting things off the ground. But, it is difficult, as you say. We are getting more teams to register PGF and participate in the qualifiers out of state, but would really like to have some here as well. It would be great to have a State championship as well. If you have any interest in helping, let me know. I currently am the State Director for Premier Girls Fastpitch and would love to talk to anyone who wants to host a tournament or who just has questions about PGF in general. As for good players, there ARE good players in the area. Some of them are still young and haven't proven themselves yet. Others are starting to generate some interest from college coaches. Just thought I'd give a belated tip of the hat to Coppin State for giving Maryland Terps a nice run for the money at a scrimmage last Sunday in College Park. Terps won 7-5 but only because the umpire made a horrible call on a diving catch by Coppin's center fielder that apparently was too good for her to believe. Most impressive was Eagles shortstop Candice Van Horn who hit the first pitch of the game (from Maryland's Kaitlyn Schmeiser) over the left field wall.

It's interesting to see that Maryland scheduled a "very" difficult out of conference fall season. Not to disrespect CCBC or the College of Southern Maryland, but I think the Terps could have found tougher teams to play. I guess they wanted to be undefeated during the fall.

That may be true but my impression of the fall ball schedule is that it's what you get when you don't have a travel budget. You invite the local teams over. And then everyone subs a lot so coaches can see the full squads in action. Not sure it says much about the Terps, good or bad.
