Congrats to the MD players with their recent showing in the D1 regionals. Amazing players. Also, to Salisbury - placing 3rd in Nationals.

Salisbury did well. Both losses were to SUNY-Cortland, which finished second. In both games Salisbury led in the 7th but just couldn't put it away. The last game they took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th, but it just wasn't meant to be.
Congrats to the Seagulls!

Mississippi State coach Vann Stuedeman earned the "not-so-coach of the week" honors during the regionals. For those who didn't see it, in the first tournament game against Florida State, FSU had a runner on second with two outs. The batter bit on an 0-2 pitch in the dirt, and the ump ruled it strike three. The catcher rolled the ball back to the circle and MSU players trotted off. After initially hesitating, both FSU runners started running.
At that point, the MSU coach waved the players off the field; yelled at them to get in the dugout. Both the runner and the batter circled the bases for the first two runs of the game. At that point, the MSU coach argued with the ump that it wasn't a dropped third strike because the catcher caught it cleanly after it bounced.
Oops, no, doesn't count. Two runs in; now get your team back out onto the field.

So, whats the word on local jobs. UVA now looking for a new coach. UMD, UMBC, Towson. The moving vans should be busy. Sbfan1 Doesn't look like there will be much movement, at least I haven't read anything? The vans can turn around. If you look at many of the locals and surrounding the overall records were around 500. The ones below 500 not much of a surprise. Keep the faith. Watten will probably welcome in the Big 10 and French will leave when he is ready. Towson had a nice run for a while...Go Tigers! SORRY Hopefully my numbers are correct should be close. If not my apologies. Coppin State 16 -25 Delaware 35-22 Georgetown 21-33 George Mason 16-36 Mount St Mary's 18-16 Towson 29-27 UMBC 11-40 UMD 31-26

Delaware === No Change Georgetown === No Change George Mason === Should be a change, but, probably not. Mount St Mary's === No Change unless the coach wants to improve her salary elswhere. $ Talks! Towson === Should be a change, but, coach is politically connected to AD = No Change UMBC === a change is on the horizon, Frenchy should play his ace cards. UMD === No Change

Softball is not a priority sport at ANY of these schools. So, unless the coach abuses players, mishandles funds, or generally ticks off the AD, the coaches will stay. Sometimes there will be movement if the AD senses a general malaise in the program and just wants to energize things, but that doesn't usually happen. Firing and hiring coaches is much harder than just putting up with less than stellar records. Not all the coaches on that list deserve to go anyway. Some of them are putting up with athletic departments that give them little or NO support.

I'll make sure Jeff Long (Arkansas AD) knows to keep him away from the baseball team (I don't care about soccer).

"Politically connected to the Associate Director of Athletics." Appears the heat was a little too hot in the Towson kitchen for the AD.

Okay, the World Series starts at noon tomorrow. Nebraska vs. Washington; Tennessee vs. Florida; Arizona State vs. Texas; and Oklahoma vs. Michigan.
Two Pac-12; two Big-12; two B1G; and two SEC.
So who ya got?
I'll take Oklahoma to win the whole thing, beating Florida in the Championship Series.

You mentioned player abuse, mishandling funds ticking off AD, players or other indviduals............ Historically, there is enough occurences of OVER-ALL ABUSE in every catagory at every institution......Including the AD's. They are not saints.... After all wasn't the NCAA created to protect the student athlete from potential corruption. Much like is occuring currently at Towson. One comment I do agree with you on is "that many are putting up with athletic departments that give them little or NO support". Why is that? No support.....

What makes you believe the coach should go? You mention Coppin State coach and UMBC coach will be gone before the fall. Why would they keep these coaches around till fall? Why would they let these coaches go out getting new players knowing they will be gone? I would think the AD would prefer to let the new coach bring his or her own players in?

Everyone on this board has a passion for softball. That same passion is not shared by these schools we talk about, their concern is that they meet title ix condions and the programs dont get in to trouble. If it was about winning none of them would have jobs. No jobs will change in the fall at Coppin or UMBC, if they are going to change it will be July 1. The contract runs through June. Umbc coach has a year left I highly doubt they care enough to eat a year on his contract so he may end up with one more dismall season and the new AD will replace him. The Coppin job is a part time job for the head coach who loves the game and a stepping stone for the assistant. That job was hard enough to fill for them when they needed a coach, they arent getting rid of anybody. UMD surprises me, they need a change and winning seemed to be a priority there with the AD but obviously not with softball. Towsaon will continue to be a middle of the road team with the Cali kids that cant go to school on the west coast. As a matter of fact UMBC should take note of that, they have been far more successful with some of the better local kids than the Cali and Florida busts they have brought in.
