My daughter is participating in the Leadership Academy at Bucknell. She says there is a lot of great information in the sessions. At Ship, this was done by the Janssen group. My captains LOVED it.

Same at Bucknell. I am glad to see schools getting involved with this initiative.

www.sportleadership.com/A pretty good site if you are looking at ways to teach player leadership, and develop good captains. In this area, I HIGHLY recommend the Jeff Janssen's The Team Captains Leadership Manual. www.jeffjanssen.com/coaching/resources.html#leadershipI truly feel that developing leaders is key to a successful program. Many of the leadership skills that we older folks would have gained by playing pick-up games must be taught to a generation of players who have had adults organizing all of their athletic recreation. Check this stuff out! I think they are tremendous, and necessary! I've been through one of these programs and I found it to be 'well' worth every minute!

Cool instructional aids for hitting. We just got this for our winter clinics, and the kids really liked them! insiderbat.com/

Looks pretty cool. But it you want a cheaper option that accomplishes the same thing, you can get a "Fetch-It" stick from PetSmart -- the plastic tennis ball launchers that folks use to play fetch with their dogs. When I first saw Jillian Callaway (5 Star Athletics) using these as a hitting training aid, I thought it was brilliant! I have used them ever since with very good results.

The best hitting instructor I ever saw used bats and balls to teach hitting. No gadgets of any kind.

I'm looking for a weekday (evening) pitching clinic or private lessons for my two daughters. If anyone knows of a pitching coach doing a weekday clinic or giving private lessons please let me know. Thanks.
