Naughty AND Nice.... probably a good description of the pending GW "Night Before Christmas" poem. Well, here are a few, blasts from the past. Could be a start of a series ... "The Best of the GW" !!!SEASON ONE:Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Bachman Not a creature was stirring, not even Bill Dowell. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that PFI soon would be there. The Relics were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of screwballs danced in their heads. And Smartwater in her ‘kerchief, and I in my ball cap, Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap. When out in left field there arose such a clatter, I sprang off the bucket to see what was the matter. Out of the dugout I flew like a flash, Threw some bats and handed the umps some cash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the luster of a night game to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer. With a handsome driver, so lively and sly, I knew in a moment it must be PFI. More rapid than eagles his cursing it came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! "Now Surfishin! now, Racsan! now, Truf and NewB! On, Akoma! On, Heavy! , on Optic and Dad RB! To the top of the backstop! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney came PFI with a bound. He was dressed in black shorts, with black socks on his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of Goodies he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack. He was tall and muscular, one hell of an elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself! He filled all our stockings with D1 scholarship letters, And Verbals for those who can’t get anything better. He spoke not a word, but kept right to his work, Knowing in his heart that JV Mom’s not a jerk. He left a gift for Coach Watten, a pitcher that really throws, And after giving a nod, up the chimney he rose! He sprang to his sleigh, to the Message Board gave a big shout, And away they all flew, it was like getting the last out. And I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!" SEASON TWO:As the Holiday Season approaches, HBO will be airing the 2010 Softball Christmas Extravaganza. You will see many of your favorite local softball personalities as you have never seen them before. Hosting our event is New-B a fan favorite. He gets around more than the fat guy in the red and white suite. Speaking of a fat guy who will be in his red and white colors, Heavy will be helping to bring in the festivities, gone forever is that obnoxious purple outfit he grew tired of wearing. Join us as we swing by College Park and listen to Coach Watten sing about her latest efforts in the ACC with the Classic, “I’m gettin nuttin for Christmas because my recruiting ain’t been nuttin but bad”. OpticY can be seen consoling Coach Watten and putting gifts under her tree. She is smartly dressed as the Little Drummer Girl and singing the comforting lines, “Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum?” Over at UMBC Coach French is chilling out and singing a few bars to his all time favorite, “Frosty the Snowman, used to look like me, but then I went on a diet and cut out food, and now I am as skinny as can be.” Over on the other side of town Bill Dowell is counting his blessings and a big wad of 20’s as he sings, “All I want for Christmas is your Entry Fee.” Doesn’t that bring out the warm feelings in all of us ? The Holiday Season would not be complete without The Real Truf and the Citgo Siberian Orchestra playing “Do You Hear What I Hear?” They also get the party going with the spicy, “I saw Surfishin kissing Racsan, underneath the mistletoe last night”. I won’t tell if you won’t. While we may think of MrMan as the Scrooge of the Season, he can be heard reciting a jingle that is near and dear to his heart, “All I want for Christmas is two brain cells, two brain cells.” He makes us glad that our parents aren’t related. This will be the Holiday Special that will make you want to run around the bases at Bachman on Christmas Eve or better yet, get a pitching lesson from one of the Relics on Christmas Day. Even JV Mom is excited. She has memorized all of the words to the “Twelve Years of Rec Ball”. You’ll never get tired of that one I’m sure, because she certainly isn’t. Down at the Trailer Park in Pasadena we can hear the locals along with RB Dad belting out “Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell Rock Creek.” Boy can they put away the egg nog and the Natty Boh down ‘ere hon. Over the bridge and down on the Eastern Shore, everyone’s little darling, Smartwater, can be seen playing her old 45 rpm of “Oh, I want Crabs for Christmas, Oh, only Crabs will do”. What a Christmas classic. Speaking of Classics you’ll not want to miss the catchy favorite, “DieHardFan the Christmas Donkey, He Haw He Haw”. Boy that one will make you smile every time you think of him. What a Jackass he is. And who won’t be tuned in to catch a glimpse of Coach501. The good fellah has been with more teams than the number of times Alvin the Chipmunk gets yelled at this time of year. Viewers can also see Mr. Green basking in the glow of his fireplace and his new found place atop the softball world, listening to that wonderful Johnny Matthis staple, “ I am the most wonderful Father of the year.” And as this Extravaganza winds down, the spotlight catches PFI nestled in his blue and gold Snuggie and in his bed, humming “I’ll be back on the Board for Christmas, if only in my dreams.”
Merry Christmas Everyone
