Rell Row George, thank you for the question. I have a workplace analogy. What do companies do when they don't know what they are doing? They go outside the company and get someone else to help. They are the infamous consultants. It is a safer call. First off, look at Georgetown. That program has never been competitive. They did get a local pitcher but not enough to make them any better. They have no meaningful plan to get better nor the coaching capability to make it happen. Therefore you show up at places that are safe bets so that you can say you were there. George Washington has a second year coach. Don't know much about her other than she looks like she's miserable. She doesn't know our area and probably won't even try to recruit here. Now for the real winner, Maryland. There's no rhyme or reason to what they do. There is an arrogance at the top of that tepee as we all know. She wants to be with the big boys (or big names - see Tincher, Morgan etc.) but really doesn't know how. Why stoop so low as to make Bachman a tour stop? She is living off of a distant past that got her to a Super Regional when she didn't even win her lowly conference. It is clearly a personality issue there and to try to dissect it is fruitless. Ironically, the loss of Kerry Hickey, a local great, will mark the beginning (or maybe the end) of the fall down there. Hopefully, I answered your question. By the way, say hello to Jane for me.

Yeah ... Seeing who all is in the mix there, if I were you, I'd demand a recount. Who counted up the votes ... JVDad? You can't blame me. I was left out of the party.

While it may not seem relevant to readers of this Board I feel compelled to comment on the Joe Paterno situation. Here is a man who was supposedly revered for his ethical standards, yet he knowingly sat on information about someone who was destroying the innocence of a child, and as anyone with common sense would figure out, was likely to do it again. Paterno may not have committed a crime in the eyes of the law, but what he didn't do was criminal to all of the children that were hurt after he came into possession of this awful information. Many of the readers on this Board coach, teach, parent and/or root for young ladies that may be vulnerable to predators. We all should be vigilant regarding people who may try to take advantage of these innocent girls. If we think someone is acting inappropriately toward them we should make sure that we stand up and do the right thing to protect them. Don't think because someone is well liked that they can't be capable of harmful actions, and don't be deluded into thinking that those people aren't currently in our midst. While this warning may sound somewhat over the top, what happened at Penn State was inconceivable and seems even more far fetched. Let's keep our girls safe. Defender of the Board

Unfortunately, these were kids whose parents were not involved. That's why they were chosen by these predators.

GW-- Can you shed some wisdom on what your version of an "off season" should be, and how long?

Mr. Surfishin, in my opinion there definitely should be an off season from softball. People get stale, both physically and mentally. I think for pre high school girls, they should be off November through mid January - 2 and one half months. There should also be about a one month break from Summer to Fall. Therefore there would be 8 and one half months of softball per year. This is true for not only the teams as a whole but for pitchers in particular. Resting the arm is important. I am not particularly fond of the argument that year-round play in California is responsible for the great talent out there. I believe it is mostly irrelevant as to why their players appear better. The real answer there is that there are more players and better avenues of competition. Lauren Gibson is one of the best players in the country and she isn't from California. The time off we have here due to Winter should be used to our advantage. Defender of the Board

Ok Ghost Writer, you come on here and run down Coach Watten post after post. Just what is your background in the game of Fastpitch Softball that makes you think you could do better than her coaching at MD?

Mr. Copy Cat name. Give me specific instances and quotes that you claim I "run down" Coach Watten and I will be glad to respond. My background in the game of Fastpitch softball is that I have been around it and have watched it at many levels. Therefore my opinions are based on comparisons of what I have seen done well and what I see not being done well. Very simple. Defender of the First Amendment

Ok Mr. Very Simple, let's try again. Where have you coached or played the game of Fastpitch softball that makes you the expert you try to come off as? Or are you really just another Daddy Coach acting like you know something? The only poster on here that is more pathetic than you is The Real Truf, that is since the Chill banned Mr. Ding Dong from posting on Message Boards. What a piece of work he is, a true no nothing who's time has past. Defend that!

Uh oh, you have me now! I have no experience whatsoever, but I have never used the word "expert". TRT has seen plenty of games and is a well respected fan of the game. I am assuming you are calling Mr. Racsan a Ding Dong. His record in the game speaks for itself. I don't know where you came from and you don't know where I came from so therefore we are at a standstill. Like I said earlier, back up your accusations with quotes and I will answer them.
