Coach -- Odd that you defend this piece of garbage who has been poking fun and demeaning other "contributors" for several years now. But then again, its alright for him to do it. I guess it just takes someone to call him out on it. Ironic, isn't it! Just one of thousands of examples below of the TURD gracing everyone with his vast softball knowledge. NOT! This is about as good as it gets from him. Turd (what a name ) , What's with all of the hostility...thought softball and conversation about the game were supposed to be fun and enlightening!

Turd Bag. I don't understand how you can get on here and criticize other people's motives or their knowledge of the game. In my not so humble opinion you have failure written all over your softball past. You are just another father who thinks they can coach and their kid is the best in the world. Guys like you are a dime a dozen. You get on here and do the same things that you accuse others of doing. Shame on you big Mike. But hey, you have offered us some entertainment at your expense and for that I am grateful. Defender of the Real Truth

And he sure ain't sitting on the couch. I see him at one tournament or another every other weekend. Now you GW; you are never kidding and always right. Glad to see you got a separate GW thread. It was overdue.

Ok ... Maryland played 4-games over the weekend. How do you think things are "shaking out" down in College Park !!!

Mr. TRT, I like your phrase "shaking out". I am not sure what is shaking, and if anything will come out of it. It is very clear to me that the loss of K Hickey will be a tremendous blow to the program. The senior pitcher is just not capable of leading that or any team that aspires to be top quality. The freshman is a very good local pitcher but certainly not ready for prime time or even being close to prime time. She got hammered by a not so great Army team and doesn't dominate lesser teams that aren't ACC caliber. As far as hitting is concerned, where is it? The girl from Las Vegas should have stayed there. Slow bat, slow everything. If that's the best recruiting the Head Coach can do, I am under impressed. I noticed the coaching staff is having one big picnic. Kretschman, while a tremendous player, is always joking and laughing and having a great time. I don't see any focus from her. Ok, the Head Coach can name drop, but names on the field are the ones that win games. In addition, it is apparent to me that a certain local sophomore catcher is on some sort of "Do not call" list. Here is a kid that can swing the bat on a team with very few hitters. Maryland is also playing teams that they should beat. Putting that kid in the field or DH ing her would not be a risky effort and would show her what this kid can do. In token at bats she has stepped up and done well. If you have a program like Arizona you can get away with burying a kid on the bench because the level of talent on the team is so deep. This insecure head coach won't give certain people a shot because she doesn't know what to do, and goes with reputation only. If I were on that bench I'd want to know what I had to do to get on the field against a Delaware State or Towson University. Her fear of losing to anyone local supersedes what is best for her team. Hey GW ... How many kids, that do the "early verbal thing", do you think are happy they went that route, 2/3 years down the road ...

Mr. TRT that's a really good question. We are all familiar with the local Baltimore girl who verballed in the ninth grade and is no longer at the school she chose and in fact is playing JuCo ball. It is a recipe for disaster. The girl who verballed to Missouri who now can't throw strikes. But do you think Missouri cares? They have all kinds of kids who can verbal to them. While I know no one keeps statistics on this I will bet that out of the ones who verbal early, there is a high percentage (> 50%) that either don't end up at that school or who in the end are sorry they did. Some will find that they will never be a starter in the school of their choice or will never pitch a meaningful game. I will also add that I think the kids that verbal in the ninth and tenth grades are lacking in adequate parental advice on the whole matter. An adult who has his/her act together and has a kid that is really good should wait until the time is right before committing to some place. This is a big decision not to be taken lightly and should not be done to impress friends and people on message boards. Defender of the Non Verbal

GW, I see where Charlotte Morgan is running a pitching camp at College Park in November. Do you think this would be beneficial to the local pitchers?

Heavy, I have no idea whether Charlotte Morgan's clinic would be beneficial to local pitchers. Try it out and see. One thing I can tell you is that there is no magic formula that any pitching coach or clinic can give someone, that at the end of the clinic you walk away a lot better than when you walked in. I wasn't asking for me. My daughter has a pitching coach that she has been working with. She has learned a lot and relates well to this coach. I don't think she needs another philosophy right now
